City of Clinton
The City of Clinton is governed by a Mayor, and six Councilmen. These persons are elected by the citizens of Clinton. The Mayor is elected for four years, the councilmen for two. The city collects property tax and payroll tax, and issues business licenses. The City of Hickman owns New Commonwealth Natural Gas, which services a large part of Hickman County. The City is financially sustainable.
The City cemetery is under perpetual care. The city maintains the upkeep.

The duties and responsibilities of the City Clerk shall include but are not limited to:
- Maintenance and safekeeping of the permanent records of the city;
- Performance of the duties required of the official custodian or custodian pursuant to KRS 61.870-61.882;
- Possession of the seal of the city if used;
- Performance of all duties and responsibilities required of the city clerk by statute and ordinance.
Street Department
The duties of the street department are to maintain the Clinton Cemetery, city streets, and all duties required by the city.
